Ancient Technology Centre (ATC) public events

The Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne has a range of opportunities for the general public including themed open weekends and storytelling events.

Dark ages weekend

Once again 'the vikings' will be invading the ATC for our Dark Ages weekend. Join us on the 29 & 30 of July to explore your Dark-Age roots.

You will be able to:

  • interact with the vikings in their camp
  • have a go at traditional crafts
  • try on viking amour
  • take part in a battle or two
  • watch traditional falconry techniques with birds of prey
  • browse stalls selling authentic historical gifts
  • experience a viking feast
  • sample rustic delicacies of Dorset Charcuterie
  • buy homemade cake from our Volunteers' Café

Time, date and price

The event runs from 10am to 4pm on both 29 & 30 July.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children. Children under 4 go free. Tickets will be sold on the gate on the day. Unfortunately you cannot bring dogs to this event.

Beyond the Northlands - Viking Voyages and Old Norse Sagas: An evening with author Eleanor Rosamund Barraclough

A wonderful evening of far-flung adventures around an open fire where you will be taken through Eleanor's book. Experience bumping along on the back of an Icelandic horse whilst exploring Norse ruins in Greenland. Sail ice fjords under the midnight sun with a caribou hunter, and search for Norse rune-stones in Sweden.

Who is Eleanor Rosamund?

Eleanor is a young, sparky author. She is one of BBC Radio 3's New Generation Thinkers and is a regular on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4.

She currently lectures in Medieval History and Literature at Durham University. Eleanor has presented several BBC radio documentaries based on her research.

Time, date and price

The event is on 28 July at 7:30pm.
