Dorchester Road improvement scheme
Work has been carried out to improve Dorchester Road following the opening of the Weymouth Relief Road.
We've so far carried out work to seven sections of Dorchester Road to help transform it from a formerly busy and congested major route to a quieter local road.
We've been designing options to slow traffic, enhance the community feel and provide more on-road parking for residents between Littlemoor Road junction and Prospect Place.
Following consultation over the past few years and discussions with the local councillor, a new road layout has been designed (pdf, 367kb) (opens in a new window) to:
- provide more on-road parking
- reduce the amount of excess traffic speeds
The proposed build-outs will allow cars to pass side-by-side but will encourage drivers to slow down as the road will no longer have a straight line of travel.
In order provide more on-street parking, we need to remove some existing parking restrictions by amending the current Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). The TRO will be advertised later this year. Subject to a successful TRO, the scheme is programmed to be constructed in early 2017.
The scheme is being funded through the Weymouth Relief Road, with improvements to Dorchester Road included in the relief road business case.
Works have been completed at the following locations:
