Stage 2 works - January 2018

Upton stage 1 finished

We'll be starting our second phase of bridge protection work on the Upton Bypass on Sunday 14 January.

During Sunday night we'll be setting out the traffic management for the work - closing off the westbound and eastbound 'slow' lanes.

There will be a 30mph speed limit through the works area and a 50mph speed limit leading into the works area, both on the approach from Poole and from the Bakers Arms Roundabout. These speed restrictions will be monitored by Dorset Safety Camera Partnership.

During our work last year, there was roughly 20 minutes extra journey time at rush hour. Please allow extra time for your journey. Pease also allow other drivers to merge in turn - particularly those joining the A35 from the A350.

The work will take around 14 weeks and includes building:

  • A350 bridge westbound verge pier protection
  • A350 bridge eastbound verge pier protection
  • Brickworks Bridge westbound verge pier protection
  • Brickworks Bridge eastbound verge pier protection

We'll also be making improvements to the A35 westbound drainage, replacing some A350 bridge edge plinths and resurfacing the A35 Upton Bypass under the A350 bridges at the end of the job.

Wessex Water pipe access

Our new concrete barrier will prevent Wessex Water from accessing a water main that runs parallel to the eastbound A35. To ensure continued access to the pipe for maintenance we will be creating an access ramp off the eastbound A350 off-slip for water company vehicles.

Latest news - 28 March

The traffic management will be removed in time for Easter!

We'll be closing a section of the A35 Upton Bypass again on Thursday (29 March) night from 7pm - with traffic diverted up and over the roundabout - so we can install white lines and road studs, which couldn't be put in place during night work last week due to wet weather.

After the lines and studs are in place, all the traffic cones will be removed - in time for the Easter weekend.

We'll need an off-peak rolling lane closure, for mobile working, on the Upton Bypass after the bank holiday weekend to repair four sections of central reservation barrier - which were found to be damaged during inspections last week.

A lane closure will also be needed to repair a section of steel barrier on the A350 bridge, which needs around ten hours of dry weather for welding. A date for this is currently being arranged.
