Freedom of Purbeck

The Armed Forces marched through the streets of Wareham on Friday 24 June 2016

In 2010, Purbeck District Council was honoured to present the honour of the Freedom of Purbeck to the Armour Centre and to the Old Boys' Association of the Junior Leaders' Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps. The Freedom of the District is one of the highest honours a local authority can bestow.

This meant that the Garrison had the right to march through the district. They did this on Friday 24 June 2016, which coincided with the Centenary of Bovington developing during The Great War in 1915/16 into the UK home base for the Tanks and Armoured Vehicles of the British Army.

The parade also preceded Armed Forces Day (opens in a new window) on Saturday 25 June.
