Allotments in Christchurch

Information on the allotment sites, plot charges and allotment strategy in the borough of Christchurch.

The council currently provides 452 plots on five enclosed sites in the borough. All sites have a dip tank water supply.

Christchurch Allotment Strategy

Allotments are a great asset for the people of Christchurch. If every resident in Christchurch who wants to have an allotment is to be given the chance to do so then we need to address the shortage of allotments across the borough. This strategy aims to increase the number and quality of plots to an achievable standard.

The new Allotment Strategy (pdf, 462kb) (opens in a new window) came into effect on 1 April 2012. Please contact the allotments team if you would like to see the appendices for the strategy.

Since then the council has been looking at ways to implement aspects of the new strategy and consulted recently upon:

  • Tenancy Agreement
  • Plot holder information to aid enforcement
  • Waiting lists

New Tenancy Agreements (pdf, 176kb) (opens in a new window) and  associated Code of Practice for hens (pdf, 13kb) (opens in a new window) were introduced on 1 January 2014.

Changes are also planned for the way allotment waiting lists are managed by each local association. They will be invited to continue overseeing plot allocations with a central list being provided on this page to show potential plot holders more information about the availability of sites and where they are on the waiting list.
