Local land charges and searches

A local land charge search is a search of the information contained on the Local Land Charges Register.

Why you may need to carry out a local land charge search

When buying or selling any property or land, a local land charge search should be carried out to reveal any legal restrictions held by the council. If restrictions do exist, the next owner or occupier will be bound by them.

Examples of restrictions may include:

  • Planning Constraints
  • Tree Preservation Orders
  • Compulsory Purchase Orders

Arranging a land charge search
