Adult and Community Services

Advancing the well being of people in Dorset through the delivery of community, regulatory and adult social care services.

The Director for Adult and Community Services is Helen Coombes.

The Directorate is supported through three key work areas:

Adult care  

Providing social care and support for older people, adults with a physical disability including sensory loss, learning disability or mental health problems and hospital social work.

Early help and community services 

Supporting people and communities through prevention and intervention services such as the Partnership for Older People Programme (POPP), Trading Standards and financial support services, and includes community services such as libraries, registrars and the Dorset History Centre.

Partnerships and performance

Working with communities and providers in the development and commissioning of social care and support services whilst maintaining a focus on safety through:

  • commissioning of services for health, older people, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health, carers and housing

  • information and engagement

  • safeguarding and quality which includes mental capacity and deprivation of liberty safeguarding, and community safety

  • business development and systems which includes business innovation, business intelligence and service support
