School visits to The Ancient Technology Centre

Information on schools trips at The Ancient Technology Centre, including residential and day visits.

We have successfully delivered inspiring, practical learning experiences for children of all ages for many years and continue to develop our range of hands-on opportunities. Why not come to the centre to get a feel for what we offer. You are welcome to book a tour with one of our staff or come to one of our public events (opens in a new window)

Residential visits

Your school has the opportunity to expand their experience by living at the Centre in our Longhouse. The Longhouse offers a unique opportunity to enjoy an authentic experience of the past with some modern facilities. Many areas of the curriculum can be covered and you can either follow a set programme or work with us to design your own. A typical day would include food preparation (to ancient recipes), looking after the livestock and other daily farming tasks.

Additional entertainment for the evenings can be arranged for you to enhance your experience. We have a fantastic range of storytellers, musicians and crafts people who can come to the Centre and work with your group.

Day visits

We offer a wide programme of day visits where your group can undertake seasonal tasks and construction projects. We can concentrate on an era of your choice, compare and contrast eras, or we can focus on specific technologies or crafts. Please contact us to discuss the huge range of possibilities.

Outreach

Our expert staff can also come to your school to undertake construction projects with your children in your school grounds or historic camps focusing on specific periods and topics. We can even undertake archaeological excavations with your children to investigate your school grounds.
