About this surveyThe council is upgrading existing toilet facilities on Weymouth seafront. Whilst we are significantly investing in this scheme,  due to the nature of the existing facilities, the money allocated  simply won't be enough to completely revitalise all of the facilities. That is why we are calling on you to give us your views!  toilet refurbishment survey (opens in a new window)

About this survey

Dorchester's historic market

Charter market, Fairfield market, the Wednesday market... whatever you call the market, it has been an important aspect of town life for hundreds of years. We have created a survey that asks your current opinions on the market, whether you shop there or not. If not, we want to understand why not! And if you do, what could make that experience even better for you? Please do tell us in the survey. The survey takes about 5 minutes to fill in. It asks a range of questions, based on whether you currently use the market in some capacity, or if you don't use it all.Cllr Mary Penfold, West Dorset District Council's portfolio holder for Enabling and Chairman of the Joint Markets panel, said: "This survey intends to glean insights in order to provide us with valuable data. This data will compliment commissioned reports to fully understand the current situation and future opportunities regarding our market.Cllr Molly Rennie, Vice Chairman of the Joint Markets panel, said: "This will be key to help us achieve our vision of a thriving and vibrant market here in Dorchester to rival any town market for quality, value and experience." We recognise the importance of the market to the success of the core retail area of the town and do not see Dorchester's future without this valued local asset. What we are working hard to do is improve the fortunes of the market to ensure its prosperity. This survey will provide valuable insights for us to consider alongside commissioned reports to achieve that goal.

About this consultation

We'd like you to help us shape how we support families with children aged 0-5 in the future.

We have a duty to ensure that there are sufficient early childhood services available across the county, although we are not responsible for providing them all ourselves.  This includes information, advice and support around health, money and parenting, as well as childcare and children's centres.

There have been a number of changes over the last few years including the introduction of 30 hours free childcare, free childcare for some two-year-olds, as well as the reduction in funding from the government. We're also working more closely with other services - such as health visitors and midwives - to provide support in the places where people go, and we know that more families are going online for information and advice.

It's important that we regularly look at this to make sure we're meeting the needs of local families -  particularly those most in need of help.

We'd be grateful if you could fill in this short questionnaire, which should only take 5 minutes to complete, to help us find out what's important to you, how you like to receive information and where you go for support.

We also want to hear from people who support children - including practitioners, community groups and local charities - as your feedback will be really useful.

About this consultation

If the government accepts the unitary proposal, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council would not exist in April 2019. Weymouth would then be virtually the only place in Dorset not covered by a parish or town council. Portland currently has a town council.

This first consultation took place during the summer. We received almost 1,000 responses and the results have been published.

We are now seeking your views about the final proposal for the town council.

The consultation runs until 12 January 2018 and councillors will then make a decision on whether to set up a town council for Weymouth.

The final proposal is for the following:

  • the creation of a single parish council covering the Weymouth area.
  • the name of the proposed new parish council will be Weymouth Town Council.
  • the first election to the proposed new parish council to be in 2019 and then every fourth year thereafter.
  • the number of councillors to be elected to the proposed new parish council (council size) will be 29.
  • the proposed new parish will be divided into 12 wards for the purposes of electing councillors.
  • the boundaries of the wards of the proposed new town council will follow the boundaries of the borough council's wards.
  • the name of the proposed wards and the number of councillors to the proposed wards will replicate that of the existing Weymouth borough wards.
