Each year the council must set the budget which achieves the right balance between service levels and minimising the council tax rise. This is a difficult challenge especially as some of the council's costs rise at a much greater rate than inflation.

The budget book provides more detail about the cost of council services and what makes up the revenue budget.

Revenue budget

For 2017/18 the total net revenue budget (expenditure less income), that's the net cost of providing all the services of the council, is £8.2 million.

The breakdown of the funding that Weymouth and Portland Borough Council receives is shown below:

  • Council Tax = £6.1million
  • NNDR (Business Rates) = £1.8million
  • Council Tax Support Grant = £0.2million
  • Collection Fund Surplus = £0.1million

Budget monitoring

The revenue and capital budgets are monitored and reported to members on a monthly basis.
