The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE)

There are many routes to access the DofE in Dorset.

To find out the steps to achieve an Award, visit the DofE website (opens in a new window).

Dorset Independents - a Virtual Gold Group

The Dorset Independent Award group specialises in providing the DofE Gold Award in a virtual environment. This is a popular way to manage and support an Award group.

Young people can get an online account to:

  • communicate with others
  • get on with tasks they've set themselves to achieve their Gold Award

As it's online they can access the account anywhere.

Membership is open to any young person aged between 16 and 23 years. You don't need any previous Award experience to join our group. You can transfer to us if you have already started the Gold Award with another Award Group.

There are no registration deadlines or membership caps so you can join us at any time. To find out more and how to join Dorset Independents, visit Going for Gold (opens in a new window).

Open Award Centres (OACs)

Young people aged 14-24 can access the Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE Award in many locations in Dorset. The following Open Award Centres and education providers can offer DofE through the licence held by DCC. All staff are DBS checked and have appropriate qualifications to deliver the expedition section. The Award is only offered at the level indicated and may only be available for specific year groups due to curriculum pressures.

OACs

OACs are run by volunteers. However they are approved and trained to deliver DofE through the licence held by DCC.

If you're an independent school or an academy, DCC insurance does not cover your school for all DofE activity. You will need to ensure that your own cover arranged by the school includes this activity. DCC only holds insurance to cover its own liabilities.
