What we expect from you

HER users are expected to note the guidance provided here and agree to our conditions for use of HER data.

To protect the archaeological resource it is important that the HER is kept up to date, and you can help by telling us of any errors or omissions, and by giving a copy of any resulting research, reports, publications, leaflets etc to the HER. We expect this as a matter of course from professional archaeologists, historic building specialists, and researchers who carry out most of the work in the county; professional standards require it.

Many of the amateur groups active in Dorset observe best practice in this and other matters, and the archaeological community at large expects that all will aspire to it. If you are involved in archaeology with a local group, perhaps by field walking or metal detecting, your group may already give copies of its reports to the HER.  If it doesn't, we would love to have them.
