Recreation in Purbeck's Countryside

Find out about walking and cycling routes in Purbeck. They form a network of footpaths, bridleways and quiet roads enabling you to visit the Purbeck countryside without your car.

Waymarked walking routes: 

  • The Wareham Two Rivers Walks - Circular walks along the Rivers Frome and Piddle. Between 2 ¼ and 3 miles (3.6km and 4.8km)
  • The Lawrence of Arabia Trail - A circular route from Bovington to Moreton. 6 ¾ miles (10.8km) in total but can be split into smaller sections
  • Wareham Forest Way - Wareham to Sturminster Marshall via Morden. 13 miles (20.8km) in total one-way but can be split into smaller sections (6 or 7 mile sections)
  • The Purbeck Way - Wareham to the South West Coast Path via Corfe Castle. 15 ½ miles (24.8km) in total one-way but can be split into smaller sections (between 3 ¼ and 6 ¼ mile sections)

Circular cycle rides:

  • Priory Cycle Ride - Wareham to West Holme - 8 miles (12.8km). This route is on-road
  • Rempstone Cycle Ride - Norden Car Park to Studland village or Shell Bay - 12 miles (19.2km) plus extension to village or beach. This route is mainly off-road through heath and forest
  • Castle Cycle Ride - Norden Car Park to Corfe Castle and Furzebrook - 11 miles (17.6km). This route is on-road
  • Lawrence Cycle Ride - Wareham to Moreton - 22 miles (35.2km). This route is mainly on-road
  • East Lulworth Cycle Ride  - Wareham to East Lulworth - 18 miles (28.8km) plus extension to Lulworth Cove. This route is on-road
  • Purbeck Cycle Ride - From Wareham around Purbeck - 47 miles (75.2km). This route is on-road
  • Northport Greenway and Sika Cycle Trail - Wareham Quay to Wareham Forest - 10 miles (16km). This route is mainly traffic free and off-road
