North Dorset Countryside Service

Path through a field of maize

The North Dorset Countryside Service is a partnership between Dorset County Council and North Dorset District Council.

The Ranger team, based at St Leonard's Chapel in Blandford, aims to provide a wide-ranging service which seeks to effectively promote and implement the aims and policies of the two councils within North Dorset. The Teams manages 14 of the Councils sites for wildlife and public recreation.

The Ranger service reports to the Countryside and Heritage Partnership Panel, and the panel has had the opportunity to review priorities on a regular basis.

The North Dorset Countryside Service is jointly funded by the Dorset County Council and North Dorset District Council.

The broad strategic objectives of both Councils provide a framework for the work of the Ranger Service and within North Dorset three main priorities have been identified:

  1. Actively conserving North Dorset's heritage and countryside
  2. Supporting the local community
  3. Contributing to a viable local economy
