Lytchett Minster School - temporary accommodation

The provision of a temporary teaching block to replace Lytchett Minster School's Creative Arts Block which was destroyed by fire.

The project

Lytchett Minster School - Creative Arts Block - Fire Damage December 2012

Lytchett Minster School (opens in a new window) serves pupils aged 11 to 18 from Lytchett Matravers, Upton, Sandford, Bere Regis and the wider area.  The school attained arts college status in 2001. To support this, a Creative Arts Block was completed in 2003 enabling the school to deliver a full range of creative courses along with vocational courses in music and performance technologies.

The Creative Arts Block was destroyed by fire after a lightning strike in December 2012. The intensity and extent of the fire devastated the building putting it completely out of use.

A temporary pavilion building by De Boer Structures, used in the London Olympic Park, was provided as it was essential that those students already enrolled on courses have the required facilities to complete their courses.  The structure has been designed as one large building located on the school playing field south of the main building campus. Access to the building is via a new pedestrian way, new paths were designed to reflect the parkland nature of the site.

On completion of the rebuilding of the Creative Arts Block, the temporary building was removed and returned to the provider. The area was made good and returned to playing field use.

The building provides specialist facilities for theatre, dance, music and art.

The project started in December 2012 and was completed in March 2013.
