Planning decisions and statistics

Information on development management activities including decisions for 2014-2015.

Overview

Dorset County Council monitors its development management activities on a quarterly basis so that we can keep track of performance against certain Government targets. Being a County Planning Authority, a significant proportion of our planning applications tend to be for major development (such as minerals and waste proposals or DCC development such as new schools). For this reason a high proportion of applications will be subject to a benchmark measurement of 13 week determination periods, with 8 weeks applying to more minor applications.

We are required to submit information to Government, with a national target of a 40% determination rate within 13 weeks for major applications in a two year period (or longer if agreed with the applicant). According to our own records Dorset County Council  has determined 75% of applications within 13 weeks over a two-year period covering 01/04/14 - 31/03/15. Whilst the past two quarters have been lower, this can be attributed to the complexity of the caseload as a result of which extensions to determination periods have been agreed with applicants.
