East Dorset Community Governance Review 2017

A review of the governance and electoral arrangements for a number of parishes within East Dorset is being undertaken during 2017/18.

The council is undertaking a community governance review of the parishes of Chalbury, Colehill, Crichel, Holt, Horton, Verwood, West Moors and Witchampton. The review has been triggered by the receipt of a petition from residents of Furzehill seeking to establish a new parish and includes other areas which were deferred from the 2014 review.

The review will be conducted in accordance with the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 (opens in a new window) and other relevant legislation. Regard will be given to the Guidance on community governance reviews (opens in a new window) issued by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

The review must be completed within 12 months and commenced on 5 September 2017 following the publication of the terms of reference and timetable (pdf, 30kb) (opens in a new window).

The review is currently in the first stage (initial submissions) during which interested groups and individuals are invited to make submissions in response to the consultation paper (pdf, 173kb) (opens in a new window). The consultation document is supplemented with a booklet of relevant parish maps (pdf, 2Mb) (opens in a new window). A separate MS Word version of the response form (word, 38kb) (opens in a new window) is also available to assist those wishing to make a submission.

Responses must be received no later than 18 December 2017.
