Ofsted inspections in childcare

What is an Ofsted inspection?

Childcare providers are regulated and inspected by Ofsted. Those on the early years register will have an inspection in every 4 year inspection cycle. The provider will receive an inspection report after each visit. They will also get a grade based on the quality of the childcare.

The grades are:

  • Outstanding
  • Good
  • Requires Improvement* (Satisfactory before September 2013)
  • Inadequate

Where to find an Ofsted report

Use our Family Information Directory  to search for childcare providers. Within each provider record there is a link to the latest Ofsted inspection report. You can also filter the records by the Ofsted Inspection result.

Find reports on the Ofsted website.
