The benefits of working

What are the benefits of working?

By working you can:

  • gain new skills
  • meet new people and make friends
  • earn your own money
  • gain experience
  • develop independence
  • learn about an area that interests you

Will I be better off financially if I work?

The amount of benefits each person receives will differ as it depends on the individuals needs and circumstances. However, there are several ways of finding out whether you would receive more money working or not.

You can:

  • visit the job centre + to complete a 'better off in work' assessment
  • use the GOV benefits calculator to see how your benefits will be affected if you start work
