Sunday 27 May Volunteering at Avon Heath

Join Avon Heath's dedicated group of volunteers and rangers in helping to conserve the heathland and its unique inhabitants. Jobs will vary during the Spring so please contact us for further details nearer the time. All children must bring an adult.

Wednesday 30 May Pond Dip

Ever wondered what makes the ripples or blows the bubbles in our pond, or even who lurks in the mud at the bottom? Join the rangers and find out. Suitable for 4+ year olds. All children should bring an adult. Booking essential; call us to book.

Friday 1 June Ladybird Box Making

Encourage these enchanting beetles and other valuable insects into your garden by making a hibernation/nesting box. All children should bring an adult. Booking advisable; call us to book.

Friday 8 June Nightjar Walk

Experience the mysterious call of this elusive bird as it fills the evening air on this delightful walk and you may experience other wonders of the night too. Suitable for adults and children of 12+ years and definitely weather dependent. Don't forget your torch. Booking essential; call us to book.

Monday 2 July Sensory memory walk

Join the rangers for a gentle walk exploring Avon Heath's springtime treasures through the senses. Smell the coconut fragrance of the gorse flowers, hear the spring birdsong and more. All welcome including those with dementia and their carers. Including free hot drink. Booking essential; call us to book.

Sunday 15 July Wild Sunday

So popular, Wild Sunday has moved to a bigger location to offer you more family fun to celebrate all things wild. More wildlife, more rustic crafts, more demonstrations, more workshops, more local groups! Hold a bird of prey, meet the farm animals, throw a clay pot, bounce on the inflatables or devour the local produce. Held at the new location of South Park, Boundary Lane (BH24 2SF).

10am -4pm In advance £10 per family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) or £3 per person. On the day £4 per person. Under 2s come free. Free parking

Every Monday 23 July - 27 August Lizard Feeding

Be enraptured by reptiles as the rangers feed the sand lizards. Avon Heath's successful captive breeding programme means you can have a close up view of these beguiling creatures as they have their natural diet supplemented. Learn more about their fascinating lives and behaviours. Subject to weather.

Tuesday 24 July Moth Week - Moth Trap Unveiling

Help celebrate Moth Week with the unveiling of the park's moth trap. From Emperors to Silver Ys, who knows what distinguished visitors have been here the night before. Make some moth brew to take home to attract moths to your garden. All children should bring an adult.

10.30- 12noon £1 for the moth brew
Friday 27 July Wonders of the Night

An enchanting evening meander exploring the park and hopefully meeting some of the twilight visitors to Avon Heath. Join the rangers, Dorset Bat group and others in a pursuit of nightjars, bats, moths, woodcock, roe deer's, owls and much more. All children should bring an adult.Booking essential; call us to book. Bring your torch.

Reptile Walk

Avon Heath is home to all six native reptiles, so if the conditions are right you have a good chance of spotting one. We can't guarantee a sighting, but you will learn expert tracking and ID skills. Weather dependent. Children should be 6yrs + and with an adult. Booking essential; call us to book.

Friday 10 August Family Bat Walk

Explore the park in search of these delightful masters of the dusk sky with Dorset Bat Group. There will be a slide show and batty activity, followed by the walk. All children should bring an adult. Booking essential; call us to book.

Prints and Plaster casts

Can you tell the difference between a fox and dog print? Discover more about tracking animals and make a plastercast of an animal print on the park to take home. Suitable for children 5 + All children should bring an adult. Booking essential; call us to book.
