Key Stage 2 Learning

A passion for learning in the outdoors is at the heart of the learning offer at Hardy's Cottage and Thorncombe Wood.

Be a famous writer for a day

Children will get the opportunity to experience and discover the richness of the landscape that inspired Thomas Hardy's love for nature. They will play games reminiscent of a Victorian childhood, and explore the cottage where Thomas was born.

Much of the inspiration for the novels and poems of Thomas Hardy was drawn from a childhood where he was free to roam in ancient woodland, heath, holloway and water meadow near his home. Children will experience daily life in the parlour and bedroom of the young Thomas Hardy, and walk in his footsteps through his beloved Thorncombe Wood.

Using objects, illustrations and games in the woods, pupils will generate ideas and inspiration and embark upon a story, poem or drawing of their own.

All groups must book in advance. For more information and to make a booking, please contact.
