North Dorset Countryside Service
The North Dorset Countryside Service is a partnership between Dorset County Council and North Dorset District Council. It is jointly funded by both councils.
The ranger team, based at St Leonard's Chapel in Blandford, aims to provide a wide-ranging service which seeks to effectively promote and implement the aims and policies of the 2 councils within North Dorset. The team manages 14 of the councils sites for wildlife and public recreation.
The ranger service reports to the Countryside and Heritage Partnership Panel. The panel has the opportunity to review priorities on a regular basis. The broad strategic objectives of both councils provide a framework for the work of the ranger service. Within North Dorset 3 main priorities have been identified:
- actively conserving North Dorset's heritage and countryside
- supporting the local community
- contributing to a viable local economy
