Stanpit Recreation Ground is a public open space adjoining Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve. The area enjoys fantastic views over the harbour towards Hengistbury Head.

Changes to the area

Stanpit Rec was identified as an area in need of improvement and investment. The Stanpit Recreation Ground proposal plan was approved by the council and identified changes to make the recreation ground more attractive, welcoming and accessible. Changes on the ground have been taking place since 2014, initially focused on enlarging and upgrading the car park. This was followed by the introduction of on site signage, phased tree planting along


The scheme was awarded funding by the Dorset Heathland Interim Planning Framework. This is a partnership that uses contributions from developers to mitigate the impacts of development on local heathland by encouraging the use of alternative sites.
