On-site facilities

Public self-service

Photocopies (library material only) - 20 pence

Microform print-out (A4/A3) - 60 pence

Public access computer colour prints - 60 pence

Permission to photograph documents

Camera permits may be purchased by customers wishing to use their own device to photograph original documents in the searchroom. Whilst the license is in effect customers may take as many photographs as they like. Some documents may be subject to restrictions.

Scans (by staff)

Black and white: £1

Colour: £2

Copies are made at the discretion of staff where the condition of the document allows.

Ordering copies remotely

Digital copies

£7 for the first image/audio file; £4 for each further image/audio file.

Note these prices are based on documents which require a single camera shot or scan to image. Larger documents may require additional scans, contact us (opens in a new window) for a quote.

Photocopies/microform print-out (by post)

Please note the minimum charge for orders supplied by post:

£7 for up to 4 black and white photocopies or microform print-outs; £1 for each further copy.

Wills and administrations - £7.

Certificates

From a parish register entry - £28 (plus £1.50 postage). 

Please note that certificate fees are set by the Church of England.

Certification of copies: in addition to cost of the copy - £6

Vehicle registration (includes register entry and card, if available) - £16

Reproduction fees

All requests for reproducing archive material held at Dorset History Centre must be made in writing to the County Archivist (opens in a new window); please include the document reference number(s) and the intended use of the reproduction.

Rate 1: Not-for-profit publication: £10 discounted rate £7.50*

Including: Community/ local voluntary groups/scholarly/educational publications, digital publication on community/local voluntary group websites or other digital media and video.

Rate 2: Commercial publication - local: £20 discounted rate £10*

Including: local press, magazines and media, local publishers of Dorset history and related material.

Rate 3: Commercial publication - national: £100 discounted rate £50*

Including: national media, digital publication in all formats, film and TV use of images.

*For third and all further images used in a single publication

Other commercial use: by negotiation

Includes significant filming, advertising use, book covers, CD labels, TV editorial flashes, TV advertising flashes, commercial video, souvenirs.

Where no charge applies

Only applicable when the work directly supports the Dorset History Centre's core objectives and key priorities or is otherwise beneficial to the archives and local studies collections.
