Foster Care Fortnight 2017

Your chance to find out more about fostering! Find out how we are supporting the campaign in Dorset.

What is Foster Care Fortnight all about?

Foster Care Fortnight runs from 8 to 21 May. The annual campaign, organised by the Fostering Network, aims to:

  • raise awareness
  • showcase the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers
  • support fostering services to highlight the need for more foster carers

This year the theme of the campaign is 'Foster care transforms lives'.

Could you foster a child in Dorset?

We have around 500 children in the Dorset County Council area already in care and in need of a foster family. They desperately need the stability and love of a foster family.

Did you know that:

  • you can foster at any age (as long as you're over 21)
  • you can be single or living with a partner, and whatever your sexual orientation
  • you can foster a child for a few weeks, or provide a home for many years
  • foster children can be any age, from babies to teenagers
  • we match children with families who can meet the individual needs of the child/children

Want to know more about fostering in Dorset?

To help promote fostering, we're doing a series of interviews with foster carers to hear from them what it's actually like to offer a home to vulnerable children. See the video and hear from our foster carer Cheryl.
