Making a new claim for another benefit at the same time

If you are also applying for Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Pension Credit then please read the instructions below.

If your new claim is for:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseekers' Allowance
  • Contribution-based Jobseekers' Allowance
  • Incapacity benefit/Employment and Support Allowance

Jobcentre Plus will take details for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support at the same time over the telephone.

You will have to fill in a separate form to claim Council Tax Support if you are not claiming Housing Benefit as well.

You will need to check and sign the details that Jobcentre Plus get from you.

You will need to give them proof for all the benefits that you are claiming.

Jobcentre Plus will send us your details so that we can work out your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, although we may still need to contact you and ask for some extra details.

If your new claim is for:

  • Pension credit

the Pension Service will give you a separate claim form to fill in for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support. You will have to fill in a separate form to claim Council Tax Support if you are not claiming Housing Benefit as well.

You should fill in the form and return it to your local council right away.

If your claim for Pension Credit is successful the Pension Service will send the proof of your Pension Credit directly to us and we will use it to work out your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.
