Empty properties can contribute towards the degeneration of an area including undermining community spirit and may be the focus of anti-social behaviour.
Returning an empty property to use will contribute towards the unmet housing demand in the county and reduce pressure on new build development and increase income for the owner.
We want to encourage landlords to bring empty homes which can include redundant buildings back into use as homes. Our role is to influence the improvement and occupation of empty property. We will take appropriate enforcement action where reasonable negotiations fail.
Conditions apply that may require full tenant nomination rights for up to 5 years.
Works eligible for grant assistance include those works necessary to ensure that the accommodation achieves the Decent Homes Standard.
Empty property loans
Empty homes loans may also be available to owners of long term empty properties (those that have been empty for more than 6 months) to bring them back into use for affordable rented accommodation. The loans we currently have available are:
