Lyme Regis Harbour

Lyme Regis harbour

Lyme Regis Harbour is 23 miles northwest of Portland Bill and 30 miles northeast of Brixham, so a handy stop off point for vessels crossing Lyme Bay with all the town's facilities close at hand. The harbour includes the famous Cobb, a grade 1 listed structure.

There is a wide slipway into the drying harbour bed over which 4-wheel drive vehicles can drive with care at low water. There is also a trailer park but cars need to park in the public car parks.

Despite access being limited due to a 7.5 ton weight limit down Cobb Road, the harbour gets very busy during summer holiday weekends. Parking can be a problem at this time but a park and ride facility is available.

As the harbour dries out, visiting yachts, usually bilge keelers, can dry out against the harbour wall. Please contact harbour staff for further details.

Fin and long keel boats can pick up one of the visitors buoys outside the harbour or they are welcome to drop their anchor in the general area of these buoys. They are advised to stay to seaward of these as the area closer to the shore shallows considerably especially at low water spring tides (LWS).

Over the spring of 2006, sand and shingle was shipped in and placed on the foreshore. This has reduced the depth of water along the shoreline and this extends along the North Wall towards the harbour entrance. The visitors' buoys have been placed further out to sea because of this, which means they are not quite so sheltered as before.

The maximum boat length that can be accommodated inside the harbour is 9 metres, as wall space is very limited.

A major coastal defence scheme has recently been completed in Lyme Regis. This has seen a large quantity of rock placed on the seabed extending the Beacon Rocks off the end of the Cobb. The leading light bearing was changed to 284 to clear these rocks.

A chart of the harbour can be found on Admiralty Chart SC3315. Fuel is not directly available at the harbour, but the closest garage is a short mile and a half taxi ride away.

The harbour is manned from 8am to 6pm seven days a week during the summer season.

All visitors to Lyme Regis should contact the harbour staff when planning their passage to confirm depth available. Use the contact details below or VHF channel 16, working channel 14.

If you wish to book a berth ahead please ring to help us make space available for you.

Fresh water and showers are available in the  Lyme Regis Sailing Club (opens in a new window) and visitors are welcome. Please see the harbour staff for a shower key.
