Entry criteria

In order to be eligible for the Apprentice Ranger Scheme applicants must:

  • be able to work full-time for 12 or 24 months

  • have an interest in pursuing a career in countryside management

  • use the post as a first step into a career

  • not have achieved a degree qualification

Dorset County Council does not use age as criteria for selecting apprentices. Any application will be processed through the selection procedure in the same way. Any person will be supported in the same way.

In respect of training subsidies, the county council does receive age related external funding. In order to take on apprentices over 25 years of age other funding streams will need to be established.

Applicants with other qualifications in an environmental or countryside management subject will be considered on an individual basis. We need to ensure that applicants will not be duplicating training already carried out in their previous qualification and therefore be committed to achieving their Diploma.
