Chatterbooks

Chatterbooks is a reading group programme for children aged 6 to 12 and is all about encouraging a love and enjoyment of reading. With best-selling author Jacqueline Wilson as the patron, and authors and publishers supporting the scheme, Chatterbooks is a great way for children to find out about the best children's books.

Sessions are led by enthusiastic members of library staff and children are encouraged to play an active part in planning and running Chatterbooks meetings - the group belongs to them!

The group can decide a whole range of themes, games, authors and websites to explore, as a springboard for exciting activities and discussions. In Chatterbooks children have the freedom to take their ideas as far as they like.

Each Chatterbooks member receives a range of materials including reading lists, review notes, reading diaries and games.

Chatterbooks offers an innovative, exciting and creative approach to reading. Chatterbooks groups will appeal to all children, including those not currently engaged with reading.

Through Chatterbooks children are encouraged to read regularly and adventurously, they develop confidence in themselves as readers, and in shaping and expressing their ideas and opinions.

Before I started Chatterbooks I wasn't a keen reader, but now I read lots more. I feel happy to have met all the people and share with them what I like about books." Jacob, aged 9.
