Metal Detectorists Liaison Scheme
The Dorset County Council Metal Detectorists Liaison Scheme was set up in 1994 to recognise and support the many responsible metal detectorists active in the county, and encourage best practice in the recovery, reporting and care of metal detector finds.
We promote collaboration between those who use metal detectors and the archaeological community, and help them present a positive image of their hobby to the public at large. Scheme members undertake to abide by the Code of best practice for metal detecting in Dorset and are provided with a membership card to demonstrate their bona fides.
Regular mailings are sent to scheme members, and training and field events organised. We also have a finds care scheme, to provide storage materials such as plastic boxes and bags at cost price.
