Dog Breeders

Dog breeders must hold a licence issued under the Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999.

A breeding establishment is defined as anywhere where five or more litters of puppies are produced in any 12 months, and any of the puppies are sold.

An inspection of the premises is undertaken before the licence is issued to assess suitability on criteria similar to those for animal boarding establishments. A fee is payable. The licence is renewable on an annual basis.
