The Mayor of Christchurch


Following the Annual Council Meeting of Tuesday 16 May 2017, Councillor Nick Geary was elected Mayor of Christchurch for 2017/18. The Mayor will accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Gillian Geary.

Nick was born in Harrow and then moved to Mudeford, Christchurch at an early age when his father was working at De Havillands.

After serving an engineering apprenticeship at Penny and Giles, Nick went on to form his own engineering business which he still runs in Christchurch.

Nick has always been interested in local affairs and has taken an active role in the community and has been Chairman of the Christchurch Commoners Association and Vice Chairman of SAMRA.

He was elected onto Christchurch Borough Council in 1999 representing the Portfield Ward and has been Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the Technical Services Committee and Scrutiny Committee. He is currently a councillor for the North Highcliffe and Walkford Ward and Chairman of the Licensing Committee.

He is a governor at Highcliffe School and has always supported and campaigned for the young people in the Borough, working with both the Lighthouse Youth Project and the Walkford Youth Club. Nick is also Chairman of the Highcliffe Scout Group.

Nick is a keen sailor and a member of Christchurch Sailing Club and also enjoys restoring old motor bikes in his spare time.


The Mayor's charities for the year

Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust - an education charity set up by the very successful Christchurch Food Festival in order to promote healthy eating and cooking skills to the residents of Christchurch.

Christchurch Lifesaving Club - a registered charity based at Friars Cliff Beach since 1970 providing a lifeguard and first aid service to beach users. Founded with the purpose of training the next generation of pool and beach lifeguards.

Highcliffe Scout Group - scouting changes lives through fun, friendship and adventure and these new challenges help enrich lives. Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development.
