Disabled parking in West Dorset

Disabled parking information for West Dorset car parks (Beaminster, Bridport, Dorchester, Lyme Regis, Sherborne and West Bay) and how to apply for a disabled parking exemption permit.

Disabled badge holders using any of West Dorset District Council's pay and display car parks are subject to the same pay and display charges as apply to other car park users. Whenever leaving your vehicle in one of these car parks, please ensure that a valid pay and display ticket is clearly displayed upon it.  However, provided that at least the minimum tariff payable has been paid, disabled persons' vehicles are entitled to park for a maximum period of one hour in excess of the period of parking time which has been paid for.

On those car parks which have marked parking bays, all vehicles are to be parked within the bay markings. The pay and display charges apply in respect of each space which is either wholly or partly occupied by a vehicle. Parking on double yellow lines or on yellow hatched areas within the car parks is not permitted.

On some of our car parks we have provided extra-wide designated 'disabled' parking spaces and we are in the process of introducing more of these. In order to prevent abuse of this facility, all vehicles which are parked within these 'disabled' spaces must have a valid blue badge clearly displayed upon them, as well as a valid pay and display ticket.

Some spaces within our car parks are designated for use by other users (such as permit holders), or for use by specific types of vehicle (such as solo motorcycles). Blue badge holders may not park their vehicles in these spaces unless they also hold the relevant permit, or unless their vehicle is of the type for which that space has been reserved.

If you are a blue badge holder and receive one of the following allowances or supplements, you may apply for a free parking permit:

  1. enhanced rate of mobility component of the personal independence payment
  2. higher mobility allowance of the disability living allowance
  3. high rate attendance allowance (if over 65 years of age)
  4. low rate attendance allowance (if over 65 years of age) and are incapable of walking more than 30 metres (written statement required)
  5. war pensions mobility supplement

This will entitle you to three hours free parking in any car parking bay. Your disabled badge and clock must be displayed.
