Pre-application advice

Overview

Before you make an application, you can get advice at a surgery meeting (for small domestic developments only) or by submitting a form. This can help you make a better application and can save time and money.

Our advice can help you to:

  • understand how we judge your proposal

  • work out if you need special input, such as with:

    • historic buildings

    • trees or landscape

    • contaminated or unstable land

  • change your proposal to make it more likely to get approved

  • reduce the time spent working with professional advisors

  • see where a proposal is unacceptable saving you the costs of making a full application

  • avoid rejection because there is not enough information given

  • work out if there is any need for a planning obligation or contribution

Some councils may charge for this service.
