Accredited Agent Scheme - Householder and Agricultural Buildings Applications in North Dorset

From 2 July 2012 we introduced a pilot scheme to help speed up the registration and processing of householder applications. This is being extended as of May 2013 so that the scheme includes applications relating to barns, where the gross floor space to be created by the development is not more than 1000 square metres.

The basis of the scheme is that agents are invited to demonstrate they can regularly submit high quality applications that do not need amendment or additional work before being put into the public domain. In return these agents will have any qualifying applications registered upon receipt rather than waiting in date order.

The pilot scheme will relate to:

  • householder applications
  • applications for barns with a gross floor space to be created by the development of not more than 1000 square metres

How does the scheme work?

The scheme works on the basis of 'accredited' planning agents who have agreed to abide by a code of practice when submitting planning applications.

This contains a checklist of items that we consider essential to the efficient processing of applications.

In return for submitting an application in accordance with the code of practice we will:

  • register your application without it going through the normal validation stage

  • aim to get it to the case officer's desk within 24 hours

  • seek to determine the application within 6 weeks, as long as it can be determined under delegated powers

The rules of the scheme

Having become an 'accredited' agent we would expect the quality of submitted applications to remain high. If errors are found in your application, it will not be processed as part of the fast track scheme.

If 2 applications have errors your accreditation status will be withdrawn and your applications will be processed in the normal way.

How to join the scheme

You simply have to:

  • agree to abide by the Code of Practice

  • have submitted 3 consecutive applications in accordance with the checklist

When we receive your signed Code of Practice, we will:

  • review your last 3 householder applications submitted

  • advise you of your current accreditation status

When you have submitted 3 consecutive applications in accordance with the checklist, you will become an 'accredited' planning agent.

We cannot guarantee however that the content of the planning application would be acceptable in planning terms when it is considered.
