Dorchester Transport and Environment Plan - DTEP
The Dorchester Transport and Environment Plan aims to protect the historic heart of the town by reducing through traffic and improving air quality.
The project aims to enhance the environment of Dorchester by implementing a series of traffic management measures to re-distribute traffic in the town. Although the scheme will not increase the capacity of the roads in the town, the improvements should help improve traffic flow.

Some of the residents of Victoria Road have expressed concern that, since changes were made to the traffic signals at Great Western Cross, speed and volume of traffic in Victoria Road has increased despite the introduction of an access only order.
Consideration is now being given to introduction of a 20mph zone covering Victoria Road, Westover Road, St Helens Road and Albert Road (west of Cornwall Road) and residents in this area are being consulted.

Victoria Road layout and features
It is proposed to mark the extent a new 20mph zone with signs and a road hump as ‘gateway features’, with further traffic calming features within the zone. This would best be achieved using road humps, due to the straightness and narrow width of the roads affected. Regulations require that such traffic calming features are illuminated through the hours of darkness using existing street lighting.
