Dial-a-Bus service

The Bride Valley Dial-a-Bus is a community door to door bus which operates in the Bride Valley area to Bridport area on Wednesdays. It has been set up to provide accessible transport for elderly and disabled people living in the Bride Valley area who find it difficult to use or access public transport services.

The Bride Valley Dial-a-Bus offers a wheelchair accessible bus and trained staff to collect passengers from their front door and transport them to Bridport town centre on Wednesday each week and return them home. On the first Wednesday of each month the Dial-a-Bus travels to Dorchester.

The Dial a Bus covers the following areas:

  • Bothenhampton

  • Burton Bradstock

  • Chilcombe

  • Little Bredy

  • Litton Cheney

  • Long Bredy

  • Puncknowle

  • Shipton Gorge

  • Swyre

  • Walditch

  • West Bexington

Cost and charges

There is an initial passenger registration fee of £1 which is collected by the driver on the first trip.  The fare for each return journey is £3 per person which is payable to the driver when you travel. Concessionary travel passes are currently accepted on this service.

Note: Genuine personal escorts are welcome to travel providing they board, and alight, at the same place as the passenger they are accompanying. Escorts pay the same fare as the registered passengers.

To join this Dial-a-Bus scheme,  download the GP Referral Form, (pdf, 340kb) (opens in a new window) and ask your GP or other professional carer to complete this.

Alternatively, contact Dorset County Council to have a copy of the form posted to you. 

You will need to return the completed application form to Dorset County Council and once it has been processed you will be able to make your first Dial-a-Bus booking.

Bookings will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis, and should be made by 3pm on the day before you wish to travel.
