Engineering and statistics

An interactive collision map, overview of casualty statistics and information on safety engineering.

The Collision Reduction Team analyse collision cluster site and route analysis information annually, using the last five years of available data. Works carried out at sites where problems have been identified can be anything from minor signage or lining schemes to fundamental changes to the carriageway. The latter are prioritised through the Local Transport Plan priority assessment procedure.

We also carry out Road Safety Audits on highway improvement schemes. The purpose of a Road Safety Audit is to:

  • assess safety implications for highway improvements and new road schemes
  • take into account all road users, especially vulnerable users such as cyclists and pedestrians
  • make recommendations to the scheme designers with the objectives of minimising future collisions and injuries

The team takes responsibility for the strategic lead in the Dorset Road Safety Partnership. For more information on the partnership and enforcement issues please visit the Dorset Road Safety Partnership (opens in a new window) page.
