Councillor call for action - Christchurch Borough Council

The call for action is an opportunity for the whole council and is a way for members to try to bring about a specific solution to a local problem. It is designed to sit alongside existing mechanisms already at members disposal to resolve local issues.

Councillors have the ability to call for debate and discussion at a committee on a topic of neighbourhood concern. However, powers are limited to issues affecting single council wards. More general policy issues can continue to be dealt with by scrutiny committees under their existing powers.

Councillor call for action is designed to be used when all other attempts at resolution have failed. It is not designed to provide an immediate solution but high-profile public discussion on an issue through councillor call for action. It offers a chance to bring a pressing issue to a wider audience and to discuss such issues in an independent, neutral, form.

Further details of how to initiate a councillor call for action can be found in part four - rules of procedure in the Constitution of Christchurch Borough Council.
