The role of the statutory Director of Adult Social Services (DASS) is to provide a co-ordinated approach to social services for all adults in the county.

  • Name - Nick Jarman
  • Employed in this role since - 1 December 2018
  • Salary band - Interim, in line with directors pay range of £111,629 - £126,281 (from 1 April 2017)
  • Number of staff under direct and indirect line management - 870

The key leadership role is to deliver the local authority’s part in:

  • Improving preventative services and delivering earlier intervention
  • Managing the necessary cultural change to give people greater choice and control over services
  • Tackling inequalities and improving access to services

The additional responsibilities within the DASS remit are:

  1. Accountability for assessing local needs and ensuring availability and delivery of a full range of adult social services
  2. Professional leadership, including workforce planning
  3. Leading the implementation of standards
  4. Managing cultural change
  5. Promotion local access and ownership and driving partnership working
  6. Delivering an integrated whole systems approach to supporting communities
  7. Promoting social inclusion and wellbeing
