Performance at East Dorset District Council

We are required to report our performance  against a number of indicators set by the Government called National Indicators (NIs). Some of these apply specifically to council services such as benefit claims. Others apply to groups of councils and other partners, examples being those concerned with crime and anti-social behaviour which are used by both councils and the police.

All councils have to report annually how they have performed against these indicators and set targets for future years. In some instances the Government sets targets that councils should try to achieve, for instance in terms of performance against determining planning applications. Exceptionally, the Government sets future minimum acceptable levels of service provision that must be met, called performance standards.

Over and above these, we have adopted a number of local performance indicators designed to measure our performance against the promises we have made in our Corporate Plan. These are based on what our residents and local businesses have told us is important.

Performance Management is about good management, ensuring that councils, services, teams and individual goals are achieved on time and on budget.  The Performance Management Framework ensures priorities and services are identified and delivered in an efficient and effective way.
